Mission Statement

The Black Elected Officials of California exists to support, provide resources, empower, and advocate for Black elected and appointed officials and the communities that they serve.

Organizational Purpose

Through collaborative leadership among elected officials, appointees, and community-based organizations, BEO is committed to improving the quality of life for the communities we serve. We seek to create sustainable positive change and build a more equitable California by advancing policies and initiatives that promote equity, justice, and prosperity for the communities we serve throughout the state.

Supporting, Empowering, and Providing Resources to Black Elected & Appointed 

Priority #1

Strengthen the capacity, effectiveness, and resilience of Black elected and appointed officials through comprehensive support systems, professional development opportunities, and resource networks that enable them to successfully serve their communities.

Education

Priority #2

Create an equitable education system that prepares Black students for success, closes achievement gaps, and develops the next generation of Black leaders in California.

Health

Priority #3

Achieve health equity for residents of the communities we serve by addressing social determinants of health, eliminating disparities in healthcare access and outcomes, and promoting community wellbeing.

Advocacy & Empowerment

Priority #4

Build political power and civic engagement within the communities we serve to ensure equitable representation and influence in California's democratic processes.

Housing Justice & Affordable Housing

Priority #5

Every resident of the communities we serve deserves access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing opportunities in communities of opportunity that build generational wealth and strengthen neighborhoods, addressing historical inequities through a justice-centered approach.

Wealth Generation & Economic Development

Priority #6

Build economic power within the communities we serve through targeted investment, entrepreneurship support, workforce development, and policies that address historical barriers to wealth creation.

Coalition Building & Strategic Alliances

Priority #7

Advance the collective power of the communities we serve through strategic partnerships and coalitions that amplify impact, leverage shared resources, and create unified advocacy for systemic change across California.

Leadership Development & Capacity Building

Priority #8
