About the BEO

Who We Are

Black Elected Officials of California (BEO), formerly Black Elected Officials of the East Bay, is a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson.  Growing into an organization consisting of over 100 elected and appointed officials throughout Alameda and Contra Costa County, the vision has expanded to cover all of California.

Over the last couple of decades, the goal of the organization has been focused on increasing the quantity and quality of African-American elected and appointed officials in the Black community through networking and relationship building.

Today, the BEO is committed to supporting, providing resources, advocating for, and empowering elected and appointed officials and community leaders.

BEO strives to improve the quality of life for all African-American communities.  To support its vision, numerous activities are planned to engage and empower members’ initiatives in the communities they serve.

True leadership will not be measured by the ability to muzzle dissent, or to intimidate and harass political opponents at home. The people of the world want change. They will not long tolerate those who are on the wrong side of history.

Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America
